Kaduna South Receives Tax Justice and Governance Platform Delegation, Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency

The Executive Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, Hon. Rayyan Hussain MPSCM FICA, received a delegation from the Tax Justice and Governance Platform (TJ&GP) at the Local Government Secretariat, where both parties held a productive exchange on strengthening collaboration and advancing tax awareness at the community level.
The discussions centred on identifying practical and effective ways to deepen the partnership between the council and the platform, with particular focus on raising awareness among residents about the importance of taxation — not merely as a civic obligation but as a direct investment in the public services, infrastructure, and opportunities that communities depend on. Bridging the gap between tax collection and community understanding remains one of the more nuanced challenges of local governance, and the engagement with TJ&GP reflects the council's recognition that addressing it requires sustained, deliberate effort.
Hon. Rayyan Hussain reassured the delegation of the council's firm and unwavering commitment to the values that have come to define Kaduna South's approach to governance. He grounded this assurance in a distinction that sets the council apart: Kaduna South is the first local government in Northern Nigeria to join the Open Government Partnership (OGP) — a global initiative that holds participating governments to the highest standards of transparency, citizen participation, and accountability in the management of public resources.
That pioneering commitment to open governance is not merely symbolic. It shapes how the council manages taxpayers' resources, communicates with residents, and holds itself accountable for every decision made in the public interest. The visit from TJ&GP reinforces this ethos, and the council looks forward to a collaboration that will further strengthen public trust, improve tax compliance, and ensure that the people of Kaduna South see and feel the direct connection between their contributions and the development of their communities.
