Maternal Health, Nutrition, and the
360° Healthcare Transformation
In direct alignment with the SUSTAIN Agenda of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani (CON), and driven by the result-oriented leadership of Hon. Rayyan Hussein, Kaduna South Local Government is executing a historic healthcare turnaround.
Our mission is to move beyond mere clinical service to a proactive, human-centered healthcare system where no resident is left behind. By integrating Open Government Partnership (OGP) principles, we have turned our 13 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) into centers of excellence that prioritize the most vulnerable: our mothers and children.
The Maternal Health Revolution
"Safe Motherhood" is a right, not a privilege. We have moved aggressively to end maternal and infant mortality through systemic interventions.
The "Mama Kits" Program
To promote safe, facility-based childbirth, the administration launched the "100 Kits Monthly" program. We have successfully distributed over 2,000 Mama Kits—pre-packaged containers with all essential delivery materials—to pregnant women across our 13 wards.
This initiative ensures that financial barriers do not lead to dangerous home births, protecting both mother and child during the critical moments of delivery.
Massive Medical Subsidy
We have introduced a staggering 70% subsidy on all medical bills across every Primary Healthcare Centre in Kaduna South. This bold economic relief is complemented by the consistent supply of free essential drugs and modern equipment, making quality care definitively affordable for every household.
Universal Health Insurance (KADCHMA)
To alleviate out-of-pocket healthcare expenses for vulnerable residents attending private and public facilities, the administration facilitated free health insurance enrollment for 2,000 beneficiaries in Batches 1 and 2, marching towards a goal of 20,000 residents.
This massive milestone was achieved in close partnership with the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), boosting inclusive healthcare services locally.
The Doctor-to-Ward Initiative
Through strategic advocacy with the NYSC Directorate, the Chairman successfully facilitated the deployment of Medical Doctors, Laboratory Scientists, and Nurses directly to our PHCs. This has drastically reduced patient congestion at general hospitals and brought professional diagnosis and treatment straight to the grassroots.
Free Cataract Interventions
In robust partnership with the Muslim World League, we sponsored free cataract surgeries—restoring sight, dignity, and productivity to hundreds of elderly residents and community members.
Nutrition & Wellness
A healthy future for Kaduna South begins with the nutritional security of our children and the holistic wellness of our communities.
Infant Nutrition (RUTF)
We provide baby nutritional supplements and fortified food items (Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food) to mothers at our PHCs to rapidly combat stunting and wasting.
Cholera Rapid Response
Established a Rapid Response Team during outbreaks, provided free life-saving drugs, and led massive community sensitization to secure water and food supplies.
Bi-Monthly Sanitation
To prevent disease spread at the source, the Chairman reintroduced regular sanitation exercises, focusing on environmental health as the first line of defense.
Mental Health & Rehab
Recognizing the hidden crisis of drug abuse, we strengthened collaboration with the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Barnawa, providing vital counseling services.
Infrastructure & Accountability
We believe that a healthcare program is only as good as the facility it is housed in and the people who monitor it. Through the Open Government Partnership, we enforce strict accountability.
Total PHC Rehabilitation
All 13 PHCs have been rehabilitated, re-electrified, and equipped with modern laboratory and scanning equipment for advanced local diagnostics.
Toll-Free Feedback Line
Residents can report on service quality via 0800 004 4433, ensuring staff remain professional, accountable, and responsive.
Health Monitoring Taskforce
A dedicated committee conducts regular audits of facilities, ensuring standards are maintained and resources directly benefit the people.
The SUSTAIN Agenda in Action
These achievements act as the localized engine of Governor Uba Sani’s SUSTAIN Agenda: Nurturing Human Capital, deepening Social Investment, and ensuring Inclusivity across all wards.
African 3G Summit Award
Hon. Rayyan Hussein’s aggressive healthcare reforms contributed directly to him winning the prestigious African 3G Summit Leadership Award as the Best Performing Local Government Chairman in Nigeria.
