Kaduna South Welcomes KADCHMA Director General, Announces Expansion of Health Insurance Scheme to 2,000 Residents

The Executive Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, Hon. Rayyan Hussain MPSCM FICA, received the Director General of the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), Mal. Abubakar Hassan, and his team at the Local Government Secretariat — a visit that underscored the deepening partnership between Kaduna South and the state's flagship health insurance programme.
Kaduna South holds a distinction that speaks volumes about the administration's priorities: it is the first local government in Kaduna State to adopt the KADCHMA programme and formalise the relationship through a signed Memorandum of Understanding. That pioneering commitment has positioned the council as a model for healthcare delivery at the grassroots level, particularly in three critical areas — reducing maternal mortality, providing Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods for children facing malnutrition, and expanding access to contributory health insurance for residents who would otherwise be without coverage.
The Director General, Mal. Abubakar Hassan, expressed that his team always feels genuinely at home in Kaduna South — a reflection of the council's authentic and sustained interest in improving the quality of health services available to its people. It is a relationship built not on formality but on shared purpose and mutual commitment to results.
During the visit, Hon. Rayyan Hussain announced that an additional 1,000 residents will soon be enrolled in the KADCHMA scheme, bringing the council's total enrollment to 2,000. The announcement represents a significant expansion of coverage and builds on an already impressive portfolio of healthcare achievements recorded under the current administration. These include a 70 percent subsidy on medical bills, the provision of free Mama Kits for expectant mothers, the rehabilitation and solar-powering of Primary Healthcare Centres equipped with modern medical devices, the deployment of doctors and NYSC health professionals to underserved communities, a toll-free feedback line for residents, free cataract surgeries, inclusive Ward Development Committees, monthly nutrition support programmes, and active partnerships with the World Health Organisation and other development partners.
Taken together, these achievements paint the picture of a local government that has approached healthcare not as a line item in a budget but as a fundamental right — one that every child, every mother, and every family in Kaduna South deserves access to, regardless of their economic circumstances. All of this has been made possible through the strong support and clear direction of His Excellency Governor Uba Sani CON under the SUSTAIN Agenda, and the council remains committed to sustaining and expanding this progress in the months ahead.
